Electric vehicles (EVs) have become popular in recent years as a more sustainable and cost-efficient mode of transportation. However, many consumers are deterred by the high upfront cost of an EV. In this article, we’ll explore the most affordable EVs currently available on the market.

Chevrolet Bolt EV

The Chevy Bolt EV stands out among the growing market of electric vehicles. Despite its compact size, it offers a spacious and attractive interior. The car’s electric motor and powertrain may be less advanced, but it still delivers a strong performance with 266 pound-feet of torque and 200 horsepower. The 65-kilowatt-hour battery pack provides a generous 259 miles of range per charge. This is double the range of the MINI Hardtop SE and better than the base Nissan Leaf. Additionally, the Bolt EV’s Regen on Demand feature allows for efficient energy storage during deceleration.

Kia EV6

The Kia EV6 is a versatile car that combines the features of a hatchback and a crossover SUV. It’s built on the same Electric-Global Modular Platform as the Hyundai, giving it a spacious interior with a flat floor and an elevated driving position. The EV6 offers a variety of powertrain options, including the base Light trim, which is rear-drive powered by a single electric motor, and a 58.0 kWh battery pack providing an EPA-rated range of 232 miles. The Wind and GT-Line trims are available in both rear-drive and dual-motor all-wheel-drive configurations. It comes with a larger 77.4 kWh battery pack, providing a longer range of 310 miles on a single charge.

Hyundai Ioniq 5

The Hyundai Ioniq 5 and the Kia EV6 may look different, but they share a common EV platform and powertrain options. One of the most affordable versions of the Ioniq 5 is the standard range, rear-drive model, with a 168-horsepower electric motor and a 58 kWh lithium-polymer battery pack. The Ioniq 5 S is also rear-drive but has a more powerful 225-horsepower electric motor and a 77.4 kWh battery, providing a range of 303 miles. The top-level Ioniq 5 all-wheel-drive model has front and rear electric motors combined with 320 horsepower. Additionally, Hyundai claims that the Ioniq 5 can charge from 10% to 80% in just 18 minutes when using an 800-volt fast charger.
